Nutritional Counseling

Chronic Disease prevention

Chronic diseases like diabetes, obesity, hypertension and heart disease are ravaging our communities, but adding a few tools to your nutritional toolbox can help equip your body to combat these epidemics. Diet is a key component to lowering your risk of developing chronic disease. As registered dietitians, we develop evidence-based, personal plans that fit your lifestyle and goals. We can equip you with the skills needed to succeed in and out of the kitchen, taking care of your body and working through the behaviors which lead to setbacks. Our goal is to teach you how to be healthy for life, and reduce your risk of chronic disease.

Gastrointestinal Diseases

Nutrition and gastrointestinal function are intimately related. Working with a dietitian can help improve GI disorders such as acid reflux, GERD, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease (including Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis), food allergies, intolerances, and sensitivities, ulcers, and other conditions. Using evidence-based information, we can help you better understand the relationship between your disease and the food you eat. Our goal is to provide you with the knowledge and tools necessary to simplify your nutrition, and improve your health and well-being. Not just in the short-term, but for good.

Pediatrics

Healthy eating habits are best learned as a child. It is the habits that begin in childhood that follow us into adulthood. Helping your child develop a healthy relationship with food, and fostering healthy eating habits, is crucial to maintaining their health as an adult. Whether you’re seeking pediatric nutrition guidance for a specific concern, or you just need help getting your picky eater to try new foods, working with a registered dietitian can provide you with the support and guidance you are seeking. Pediatric nutrition requires a family effort. We will work directly with you and your child to identify your goals, and together to help you both achieve them.

Weight management

The secret to weight loss? There isn’t one! Losing weight is a marathon, not a sprint, and occurs when we build healthy skills and fix our relationship with food. It doesn’t mean eliminating whole macronutrients, and isn’t simply solved by taking medications and supplements. We can help you stay on track, over the long-term, to ensure that the changes we make are changes for life, thus ensuring the weight stays off!

Thyroid Diseases

Many people with thyroid issues experience great frustration due to the effect thyroid function has on metabolism and other aspects of health. Weight is often the most common complaint amongst clients with thyroid diseases, however the thyroid can cause other problems such as fatigue, anxiety, sleep disturbances, and depression. Thyroid diseases also increase the risk of developing heart disease and type 2 diabetes. This is why learning to eat a balanced diet and adopt a healthy lifestyle is such an important part of managing your thyroid disorder. Our goal is to help you simplify nutrition in a way that best suits your lifestyle. Managing your thyroid disease doesn’t have to be complicated, and with proper support and guidance, you’ll learn the tools to improve your health for life.

Sports/ Athletes

Ready to hit a PR? Improve your fitness? Increase muscle mass, strength, and endurance? Nutrition is such an important part of optimizing athletic performance, but sports nutrition is not one size fits all. Through nutrition assessment, reviewing past medical history, and any other areas of concern, we will work on both short-term and long-term goals to help you improve your performance, avoid injury and overtraining, and achieve peak results. Achieving your performance goals takes time, dedication, and patience. We’re excited to help you define your goals, create a road map to achieving them, and help you win first place!

Vegetarian & Vegan Nutrition

There are so many reasons people want to go plant-based. Whether for health reasons, to protect the animals or to reduce your carbon footprint, it is important to remember that the term ‘vegetarian’ does not automatically mean healthy. And transitioning can be tough. Vegetarians have to make sure they are eating a balanced diet to help prevent nutritional deficiencies, unwanted weight changes, or other impacts on their health. We can help you ensure that your vegan or vegetarian diet is helping to keep you thriving, whether you’re a lifelong vegan or a newfound veggie lover.

Eating Disorders

Nutrition therapy for eating disorder recovery requires a unique approach that addresses not only the symptoms of the eating disorder, but the origins as well. Disordered eating behavior can develop from a biological reason, addiction, in response to stress or trauma, or from social/learned behavior. Working with a registered dietitian can help you identify the origin of your disordered eating and determine the best approach to get you on the right path to healing your relationship with food. Whether you struggle with anorexia, bulimia, binge-eating, or some other form of disordered eating, we can help you successfully navigate the road to recovery.

Renal Diseases

Navigating nutrition for renal diseases can seem so complicated! There are so many different nutrition recommendations depending on the stage of disease, whether you’re receiving renal replacement therapy, and what kind of dialysis you might be receiving. You may be wondering how to decipher those routine lab values you have drawn, and what that means for your nutrition. How much protein should I eat? Should I avoid foods high in potassium and phosphorus? If so, what foods should I avoid? We can help you answer all of these questions and more. Nutrition is very individualized to each person, especially when renal disease is involved. Our goal is to help you understand the nutrition recommendations specific to you, and give you the tools to apply them.
